System Information

vmstat

Reports virtual memory and system activity.

vmstat shows processes, memory, swap, I/O, interrupts, and CPU activity over time.

Syntax
vmstat [delay [count]]

Arguments explained

  • Options adjust output or behavior.
  • Arguments name the files, services, hosts, or values the command should work with.

Common examples

Sample five times
vmstat 1 5

Prints system activity every second for five samples.

Show memory stats
vmstat -s | less

Displays cumulative memory statistics.
