killall

Signals processes by exact command name.

killall sends a signal to all processes matching a command name.

Syntax
killall [options] name

Arguments explained

  • Options adjust output or behavior.
  • Arguments name the files, services, hosts, or values the command should work with.

Common examples

Terminate a named process
killall firefox

Sends SIGTERM to processes named firefox.

Send HUP
sudo killall -HUP nginx

Asks nginx processes to reload where supported.
