dig

Queries DNS records.

dig is a powerful DNS lookup tool used to inspect A, AAAA, MX, TXT, NS, and other records.

Syntax
dig [options] name [type]

Arguments explained

  • Options adjust output or behavior.
  • Arguments name the files, services, hosts, or values the command should work with.

Common examples

Query an address record
dig example.com A

Shows IPv4 DNS information for example.com.

Use a specific resolver
dig @1.1.1.1 example.com

Queries Cloudflare DNS directly.
