Disk and Storage

df

Shows filesystem disk space usage.

df reports free and used space by mounted filesystem. It answers which mounted volume is full.

Syntax
df [options] [path]

Arguments explained

  • path limits output to the filesystem containing that path.
  • -h uses human-readable sizes.
  • -T shows filesystem type.

Common examples

Show all mounted space
df -h

Displays used and available capacity for mounted filesystems.

Check the root filesystem
df -h /

Reports space for the filesystem mounted at /.
